Kalandan Foundation
Kalandan Foundation Inc., a PBI (Public Benevolent Institution), teaches high-risk adolescents and at times corporate leaders, life skills by building partnerships with wild brumby horses through authentic horsemanship. The Brumby Camp Program is based on the philosophy that self-esteem is a function of achievement and recognition. Each youth faces the challenge of earning the trust and respect of not only a truly wild horse but also of their peers and instructors. This is done by learning and using the key ingredients of authentic horsemanship: kindness, patience, persistence, and consistency. These skills and lessons help build the solid foundations and social skills that the youth need to make a positive contribution to society . . . READ MORE
Mission
Our mission is to motivate high-risk adolescents by mentoring them through the process of developing a partnership with a wild brumby horse. The skills that will naturally develop during this long term program will help equip the youths with the ability to become willing participants in society. Kalandan Foundation empowers participants, prepares them for success in life and helps them make positive choices all while training and gaining the trust and respect of wild horses and the people around them. |
Brumby Camps
Kalandan Foundation works with high-risk youth, ages 13-18, to develop social skills taught through the Brumby Camp Program lasting from 3 days to two weeks.
An annual graduate program, lasting 6 weeks, gives the youth an opportunity to develop a brumby from the wild into a willing partner under saddle. |

Kalandan Foundation holds it's first pilot Brumby Program
Kalandan Foundation holds it's first pilot Brumby Program with Mission Australia. Six youths from Triple care farm attended the Kalandan Foundations first Brumby Program workshop day on Thursday the 24th of June. It was a tremendous success with the students due to return on Tuesday the 29th of June.
The highlight was the starting of Storme, Snowy's first foal. Storme was saddled and ridden for the first time assisted by one of the participants. It was fantastic to finally get started again.
